A rose by any other name.... OR getting to know you...

This is a bit of a pointless thread but I'm a little bored. I've always been curious about some of the names that people assume when posting such as Depsin, Windowslaws, laughingduck, Chance, Spoonboy, Vertino, Souljacker... etc etc etc.

We're now so used to seeing these names - which lead us to build up our own (and probably innacurate) mental interpreatations. I'm possibly alone but I've often wondered where these names actually come from and what the heck they mean. I used to have one too (which was 'twister', based on a Paul Smith quote - not a crappy film about wind - which is one of the reasons I ditched it).

Anyone else fancy sharing the meaning and thinking behind their alias - or maybe even what their 'real' name is...?

On other boards I've also used Bada-Bing because it was the title of the script I was writing a the time and also Bonjourno Principessa because I'd watched Life is Beautiful and liked the phrase.

My production company is Carsick Pictures which was originally going to be called Carsick 7 Pictures but my producer didn't like the 7. Carsick 7 came from a weird song called Car 67 about a taxi driver. This sounds like Carsick 7 which I thought rolled off the tongue quite nicely.

Then my producer came along and fucked everything up, like they always do. Bastards [img]wink.gif[/img]

I had a dream - of writing an x86 unix operating system entirely in assembler which should go by the name of ass(embler)yr(un)ix. After realising the futility of the task and the feasible alternatives already present (Linux, BSD) I kept using the name as an alias.

P.S.: The bits in brackets should only clarify how the name came together.

mines from a book called "the blood of angels" by stephen gregory.

when we first meet the main character he has "dropped out" and is building a dry stone wall in wales.
